About that $700 Billion... →
Great article. Really. Regardless of how you feel about Newt Gingrich, you owe it to yourself to read this article. (In fact, if you think you don’t like Newt, you’ll probably be surprised by it.)  It’s time to end the silence and clear up the confusion. Congress has an obligation to protect the taxpayer. Congress has an obligation to limit the executive branch to the rule of law....

“If people are not stunned by the specs and design, I will retire… truly.”
– Jim Jannard. Speaking of the DSMC camera he announced. (I’m sorry, I can’t stop posting this stuff. It’s just too good.)

More from Jannard. This man is awesome.
“This stuff is pretty simple. 1. Have the best sensor program. 2. Have the decision-maker be a shooter. 3. Don’t have a legacy program to deal with. 4. Love this industry. Stay up 18 hours a day working on it. Have great people around you as passionate as you are. The rest is a piece of cake. (and)…. As far as glass is concerned… glass is easier than sensors. Just takes...

RED DSMC
peterbaker: “We believe, and are developing for late 2009, a replacement for DSLRs. Currently, we call it a DSMC (Digital Still & Motion Camera). While (insert code name) is not a replacement for Epic or Scarlet, it is strategically targeted at the DSLR space. As Nikon and Canon release their 720P and 1080P, respectively, DSLRs with video capture… RED has a more advanced view of the future....

A 36:1 ratio is actually pretty good →
Good article about the importance of restraint in photography editing. I’ve mentioned this before, and it bears repeating. EDIT YOUR PHOTOS. My rule of thumb for family photos is this: If I don’t confidently expect to actually enjoy looking at THAT photo 3, 5, 15 years from now, I delete it. I don’t save it in an archive folder. I don’t give it a “1 star”...

A Look at "The Dark Knight" Script →
A truly well-written “pro” script is so much different than an amateur one. This one sounds like perfection.

“My understanding is that Gov. Palin’s town, Wassilla, has I think 50 employees....”
– Obama, via CNN Political Ticker.  HA! Is he serious? So let me get this straight…he’s been running his campaign for the last two years, while Palin RUNS ALASKA, with it’s 11.2 Billion dollar budget and it’s 15,000 employees, and he’s using those facts to make the...

Violent Loudness.
…Ooooh that’s right. I forgot that the people who make Tumblr are COMPLETELY DEAF AND ARE TRYING TO DEAFEN THE REST OF US OUT OF SPITE!!! I want to punch my computer every time I turn on a song in the Tumblr dashboard and it starts playing at like 7000% volume IN MY BOSE HEADPHONES. Nothing like the soft ear-encompassing comfort to hold in all that piercingly loud, ear-drum-slashing...

MaryAnn: no, [I used] honey
Ben: neat. 'cause I like it nice and bitter...bordering on rancid tasting... thanks

Good
you're welcome
I can bring it up [the sugar]
Ben: if you're coming up here anyway for something
MaryAnn: but I won't
Ben: awesome
MaryAnn: I will in a moment
Ben: : Honey in tea is disgusting, FYI.

Speaking of “uncluttered”…this video, titled An Uncluttered World, is a beautiful piece of work by truly great cinematographer, Steven Dempsey. If you have the time, download the full resolution version (lower right…I think you have to be a Vimeo member). It’s worth it.

Opentape →
They killed Muxtape (at least for now)… so this is the software equivalent of the middle finger to the RIAA. Basically Muxtape, but on your own server… totally controlled by you. (Apparently, they are not affiliated with the official Muxtape.)  (FYI, this version is the best so far.)

I normally avoid politics on this blog like the plague, but I felt like saying something on this one, so I’m gonna… Whether you like Sarah Palin or not (I really don’t care which), everyone ought to know that personal family matters, especially those involving candidates’ children, should be left out of equation. I agree with Obama when he said the pregnancy “has no...
