This photo depresses me like few other aerials could. For the men that planned these runways and thruways, these gashes must have felt orgasmic to make — What! Progress! We’re! Making! — but to me they memorialize the absolute failure that was the planning of America’s communities. Will we ever have another chance to do this over? So much landscape gone. Such innocence lost!
