I really love the fact that Tumblr is now able to extract metadata from uploaded MP3’s. I thought I’d mention a small issue I’ve just noticed with it… The problem is: where to show the data if a person is using the new audio metadata tags in their theme?
For example, this post that I made this morning takes advantage of the new feature. When you view it from the “front-end” it looks good, complete with the song name, artist, and album:
But on the Tumblr dashboard, it only has the album art and my caption.
The problem is, if I use the new theme tags, it nullifies my need to manually put the artist name/track name/etc. IN the caption. (It would end up looking duplicated on the front-end.)
Seems like the audio post in the dashboard, perhaps by default, ought to display this track info in some way so that a person doesn’t end up with the catch-22 of whether to type it in manually or not.
All that said, it’s a terrific feature. Does anyone have an idea of how to work around it in the current incarnation (that doesn’t involve hiding your caption on the front-end)?
