Anyone who is on the web a lot and who uses Safari — go get this plugin right now. It’s always been good, but I just discovered a new feature in the new version that is really really cool. It’s called “Clip Web Archive”.
(For anyone who’s not familar with how Safari makes “web archives” in general, the basic idea is that you can save off a whole page and wrap it up into a tidy package that you can then open later — regardless of whether you’re online or not. This has been in Safari for a while now.)
Well, SafariStand’s Clip Web Archive takes this concept a step further and let’s you clip just a specific “chunk” of a webpage. So, say you like a particular layout element and want to either recall it quickly later or send it to someone as an example. Clip Web Archive works just like the built-in Web Clip Dashboard widget function in Safari, in that it let’s you quickly highlight just that chunk of the page, and save it as a neatly wrapped-up package. This is handy.
BUT—SafariStand takes it even a step further and allows you to annotate that archive — PERFECT for sending a snippet of a page to someone with notes and a link back to the original included.
Trust me, it’s cool. Download SafariStand, install it. And then just right-click on a page to see for yourself.
(FYI - I believe all the coolness I just described is only in the Leopard version.)
